He was involved on a wide range of international projects in the upstream oil & gas industries in conventional and unconventional projects in any stage of lifecycle, and has worked for large IOCs, NOCs, independents, and leading service companies on projects around the world. He maintains a demonstrable track record of adding commercial value, negotiating deals, interacting with corporate leaders and governmental officials as lead facilitator and negotiator, and as experienced advisor to Executives, Boards, and Senior Management.
As advisor to the energy industry, he is providing technical and commercial advisory services and business intelligence to a wide range of worldwide clients including government bodies, ministries, national and private E&P companies, service companies, private equity firms, institutional investors, investment banks, and family offices. He is an expert in oil & gas investment analysis, asset evaluation, mergers & acquisitions, reservoir management, field development, data integration, and economical analysis, and has initiated and contributed to successful projects, was instrumental in various new country entries in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Additionally, he has experience in building and managing numerous asset portfolios, including those in high-risk/high-reward countries, and was responsible for major Oil and Gas discoveries.
Markus is Member of Board committees, Industry advisory and Management Teams, member of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), the Continental Europe Energy Council (CEEC), the Middle East Scout Group (MESG), and is well-connected across IOCs/NOCs, major operators, independents, institutional investors, Private equity, and Pension funds.
Markus holds a Diploma (Hons.) in Geology and Paleontology, and a Doctor of Science with major in Geochemistry from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). He is a post-doctoral fellow of Princeton University.

OPPtimal developed a groundbreaking method to identify small-scale faults from 2D or 3D seismic data, directly impacting drilling and production.
